Mission & Beliefs

Our Mission

Lakewood exists to glorify & enjoy God by making disciples of Jesus Christ.

Ever since in the creation of the universe He brought forth those insignia whereby He shows his glory to us, whenever & wherever we cast our gaze. …And since the glory of His power & wisdom shine more brightly above, heaven is often called His palace. Yet…wherever you cast your eyes, there is no spot in the universe wherein you cannot discern at least some sparks of His glory.
John Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion, 1.5.1

What We Believe

The Baptist Faith & Message 2000

Our Core Values

We apply our core values to the lives of our covenant members in every ministry & activity of our church. Thus, each value guides the shepherding of our church toward maturity as disciples of Jesus Christ.

The Word

We value the Bible as the written Word of God; inspired, inerrant, infallible, clear, necessary & sufficient

(2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 1:1-2)

The Gospel

We value the Gospel as the theme of the Bible; the good news of the Kingdom of God coming in the person & work of Jesus Christ

(John 3:16, 1 Corinthians 15:3-11)

The Truth

We value biblical theology & commit ourselves to declaring, defending, & delighting in the faith once for all delivered to the saints

(1 Timothy 4:6, 6:3; Titus 1:9; Jude 1-4)

The Church

We value the local church as a covenantal community of regenerated believers who confess Jesus Christ as Lord & gather under qualified leadership to participate in Preaching, Baptism, the Lord’s Supper & Church Discipline in order to progress toward spiritual maturity

(Acts 2:42-47; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 10:16, 21; 11:23-29)

The Nations

We value the extension of God’s glory to the ends of the earth through the proclamation of the Gospel to all peoples

(Psalm 67, Matthew 28:18-20)
