The History of Lakewood Baptist Church

Our story has deep roots here in Louisville’s East End, where we’ve ministered for over 30 years.

Our Story

Where It All Began

In the summer of 1986, Hurstbourne Baptist Church agreed to start a new mission in Louisville’s East End. On March 29, 1987, a small group of 17 people gathered in the home of Dr. and Mrs. Al Harris for the first worship service of what would become Lakewood Baptist Church. From those humble beginnings, we have continued to grow in our commitment to investing in disciple-making for the glory of God and the good of all peoples. Now, we look forward to future discipleship opportunities in Middletown, Louisville, and the Nations.

“There isn’t going to be any Christianity where theology isn’t central to the entire enterprise of the church.”

R. Albert Mohler, Jr.

The Vision

Our logo represents the cross on top of our original church building, built in 1987. The bookmark design represents the emphasis our church places on the study of Scripture

“If we are to be mighty in God’s work, we must be mighty in God’s Word.”
